Featured Saint of the Day: St. Ignatius of Loyola
Today Deacon Rick and Jenny spoke with Robert Brownell, a Polk County Supervisor. Robert shared some news about the YMCA's 180 beds program. There is now additional housing available for those who are trying to get back on their feet. The program allows it's tenants to stay for up to two years. They are working on making more beds available to veterans. It is proposed that the program move to what is now the "Interim Jail" as the County is moving to a larger facility.
Our scheduled guest was unable to make it on the air, so Rick told the story of Bl. Miguel Pro. The Shrine of Blessed Miguel Pro is in Houston, Texas. You can learn more by going to: www.miguelproshrine.com

Featured Saint of the Day: St. Thomas the Apostle
Guests: Fr. Christopher Weldon & Fr. Christopher Roberts, Frassati Society of Young Adults
Our guests today told us about Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati, patron saint of youth and namesake of the Frassati Society. Bl. Pier Giorgio is known as the "Man of the Beatitudes". He was born in Italy in 1901 and died at the age of 24 in 1925 from polio that he contracted from helping the poor. He is one of the patrons for this year's World Youth Day in Australia and is a great model of holiness for all of us, especially our young people. His feast day is July 4th. Some recommended reading about Bl. Pier Giorgio includes "A Man of the Beatitudes" by Luciana Frassati, Bl. Pier Giorgio's sister. There are also several other books concerning him most of which you can purchase at our local Catholic bookstore, Divine Treasures on Hickman Rd., including his sister's book.
Our guests also talked about the Frassati Society of Young Adults and the Frassati Conference coming up on July 25-27th in Indiana. To find out more about this great organization, the conference, or how you can start your own local chapter, please visit http://www.frassati.org/.
Here is the prayer for canonization of Bl. Pier Giorgio Frassati:
"O merciful God, Who through the perils of the world deigned to preserve by Your grace Your servant Pier Giorgio Frassati pure of heart and ardent of charity, listen, we ask You, to our prayers and, if it is in Your designs that he be glorified by the Church, show us Your will, granting us the graces we ask of You, through his intercession, by the merits of Jesus Christ, Our Lord, Amen."

Featured Saint of the Day: St. Oliver Plunkett
Guest: Gianna Jessen, abortion survivor
Gianna shared her incredible story of life, love and God's protection and guidance throughout her life. Miraculously, after 18 hours of being burned alive in her mother's womb through an attempt to end her life through a saline abortion, Gianna was born alive in 1977 at the abortion clinic and was taken to a hospital. The abortionist's signature is even on her birth certificate! As a result of the lack of oxygen to her brain during her fight with the saline, she now has cerebal palsy - and although the doctors said she would never even move, let alone walk, she merely has a 'little limp' now and has participated in marathons. Also miraculous is the fact that she has no burn scars anywhere on her body despite being engulfed in the saline for 18 hours - Praise God! Gianna speaks on behalf of life as an incredible survivor of abortion to governments and leaders all around the world - she is available for speaking engagements at http://www.giannajessen.com/. She is one of the most joy-filled people you will ever meet - full of love of God, a great musician, abstinence educator, and incredible witness for life at all stages from conception until natural death. Find out more about Gianna's story at her website and don't miss out on the opportunity to bring her to your next event to inspire and encourage all who attend!

Featured Saint of the Day: Bl. Junipero Serra
Guest: Bill Ramsey, Past President of the USA Council of Serra International
Bill told us about Bl. Junipero Serra, whose feast day is today, July 1st. Bl. Junipero was a priest from Spain who traveled to the new world to spread the message of the Gospel. He founded several of the famous missions in California and is buried in the mission at Carmel. Bl. Junipero is well on his way to canonization. Below is the prayer for canonization for Bl. Junipero Serra which members of the Serra Club say at the closing of their meetings:
Heavenly Father, we ask you to look lovingly on the missionary journey of your faithful servant, Junipero Serra. His steadfast efforts in founding nine missions in California and the conversion of thousands of Native Americans have inspired the formation and work of Serra International.
This ministry in Father Serra's name is to encourage and affirm vocations to priesthood and vowed religious life. We pray that you bless this holy and courageous missionary and grant him the ultimate honor of Sainthood in your heavenly kingdom.
We ask this in the name of Thy Blessed Trinity and of Mary, Queen of vocations.
Amen.
Serra International holds as its namesake Bl. Junipero Serra so Bill also talked about the mission and activities of the Serra Club. Serra International is an organization dedicated to the encouragement of vocations, most especially to the ordained priesthood and religious life. To find out how you can become involved with Serra International to promote vocations please visit www.serraus.org.
